Best Hospitals in the U.S. Trust Spok for Clinical Communications

For the sixth consecutive year, top-ranked hospitals in the nation rely on Spok for smarter clinical communications to deliver exceptional patient care

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (August 15, 2018) – Spok, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Spok Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPOK) and a global leader in healthcare communications, announced that all 20 hospitals named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-19 Best Hospitals Honor Roll and all 10 hospitals named to the 2018-19 Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll trust Spok for clinical communications to support exceptional patient care and advance their missions. This year U.S. News & World Report surveyed more than 4,500 medical centers, which represent virtually all U.S. community inpatient facilities, and ranked hospital performance across 25 medical specialties, procedures, and conditions.

“We are proud that for the sixth consecutive year all of the Honor Roll hospitals in America partner with Spok to connect their care teams, speed response, and provide a better patient experience,” said Vincent D. Kelly, president and chief executive officer of Spok Holdings, Inc. “Consistently working with all of the best hospitals is further validation of the value we offer our customers. It’s an honor to serve them, and we congratulate these top-performing hospitals on their passion and dedication to serving patients and their families.”

The 2018-19 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll recipients are among the more than 1,900 hospitals and health systems in the U.S. that use Spok solutions to help deliver the highest standards of care. Through Spok Care Connect®, the leading clinical communication platform that integrates with existing workflows and systems, hospitals are better able to deliver information quickly and securely into the hands of the care team members who need to act on it—wherever they are and on whatever device they are using. From the contact center to the patient’s bedside, Spok Care Connect provides up-to-date directory details, on-call schedules, staff contact preferences, secure messaging, clinical alerting, paging, and more.

“These rankings demonstrate that hospitals are putting their patients first by having a smart clinical communication technology in place,” said Hemant Goel, president of Spok, Inc. “With one platform that can connect care team members with one another and the other systems they rely on, physicians and nurses can make prompt, informed decisions that support the best possible outcome for the patient.”

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings, has conducted the Best Hospitals rankings for 29 years. The rankings are among the most referenced by consumers because they are based primarily on objective data, including risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators. Each hospital’s reputation, as determined by surveys of physician specialists, is also a factor. Prominent changes to the 2018-19 rankings methodology included more emphasis on patient outcomes and patient experience measures.
