Front and Center Stage - Opening Day at Connect 14
Oct 20, 2014
Connect 14 is in full swing here in picturesque San Antonio! This morning CEO Vince Kelly and I kicked things off in our opening session covering highlights from the past year along with a look at our exciting future. We were also joined by other members of the leadership team to talk about the trends we’re seeing in healthcare, what our company rebrand means, and how we continue to innovate and evolve our product and service offerings.
Another highlight from this morning was a case study presented by Chris Mossengren, mobility and communications program manager, and Tim Rand, executive director, Telecommunications Facilities Corporation, both from BJC HealthCare & Washington University School of Medicine. Chris and Tim shared their hospital’s complex communications structure with us, including the challenges they have experienced in the area of mobility. BJC HealthCare has different types of mobile devices that all need to receive information from multiple places (operators, nurse call systems, IT applications, etc.). Their goals were to maintain their device diversity, protect patient privacy, and integrate all the disparate clinical and information systems needed to support communications throughout the facility. So they started by breaking down these challenges into bite-sized pieces, then they put the pieces back together with technology solutions. Chris and Tim illustrated a terrific example of how large institutions struggling with complex communications are able to get their arms around their challenges. The most important factors in their process were firstly, building relationships throughout the organization for internal buy-in and secondly finding the right technology that could support all of their goals.
I am not just at Connect to present, my team and I are here primarily to listen. We plan to hear from as many of our customers as possible during breaks and at the evening events. We are also available throughout the next few days for one-on-one meetings. If you are here and would like to schedule time with us, please look for one of our Spok team members near the registration table to assist you.
I also want to thank all of you who have taken time from your busy schedules to be here with us, discussing best practices with other healthcare leaders and sharing your thoughts on how we can enable your success. We’ve had a fantastic start this morning! If you weren’t able to join us this year, keep an eye on our website for topics of interest to you in our webinar series in the coming months.
